MAITTC Student Event: In Conversation with T&I Practitioners

On Friday 14 May 2021, the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Asian Studies co-hosted a Master of Arts (Interpreting, Translation and Transcultural Communication) virtual student cohort event, titled ‘In Conversation with T&I Practitioners’.

Four NAATI-certified translators and interpreters were invited to share their experiences in the industry.

The talks covered a wide range of topics including cultural, linguistic and ethical challenges in the practitioners’ professional life, as well as advice to students aspiring to be T& I professionals.

The presentations were well received by students both onshore and offshore, who appreciated the opportunity to directly ask practitioners specific questions and gain insights into the professional world of translation and interpreting. Students responded, saying they felt ‘enlightened’ and ‘having learned a lot’. We are confident this event has certainly been instrumental in enhancing their learning experience.
