ESU International Student Prize for Media
This Prize has been established by the University as a result of a contribution by The English Speaking Union (SA Branch), which is part of an international educational charity whose theme is ‘Creating global understanding through English'.
The SA Branch, one of over 50 in the world, was established in 1923. The ESU (SA Branch) has provided funding to the university to establish an annual prize in the Discipline of Media for the purpose of encouraging and rewarding excellence in the use of English.
The value of the Prize will be $500.00 awarded annually over five (5) years until otherwise determined by the University after discussions with the contributor.
The prize will be awarded by the University annually to an international student for whom English is not their first language, enrolled in their final year of study in the BMedia program who has demonstrated an outstanding level of commitment, enthusiasm and potential for mastering English.
Selection of Candidate
The Discipline of Media panel (convened by the Head of Discipline and consisting of not less than three representatives from the Discipline of Media) will award the prize to an international student enrolled in their final year of study in the BMedia program who has demonstrated across their Media degree the highest level of commitment, enthusiasm and potential for mastering English in both written and spoken communication.
If there is more than one candidate of equal merit, then the prize shall be shared.
The University may vary the rules from time to time in a manner consistent with the original objectives of the prize.
