EMR Music Fund - (Supporting) The EMR Travel Scholarship in Classical Musical Performance

In 2004, the Elder Conservatorium received a significant charitable donation to support a scholarship for an outstanding graduate wishing to undertake further advanced study overseas (privately, or under the auspices of an institution).

It is open to Australian citizens in the field of classical musical performance: instrumental, vocal or conducting.

The EMR Travel Scholarship in Classical Musical Performance is administered according to the following Rules:-

  1. The Scholarship shall be called the “EMR Travel Scholarship in Classical Musical Performance”

  2. The Scholarship shall be open to Australian citizens in the field of classical musical performance: instrumental, vocal or conducting.

  3. Students who are nearing completion of their undergraduate or postgraduate programs majoring in Classical Performance are eligible to apply.  Recent graduates are also eligible to apply.

  4. Two scholarships of $12,000 each shall be offered annually and are tenable for one year, however, the total value of the scholarships shall not exceed the annual income distribution received from the Endowment Fund.

  5. Payment of the scholarship shall be made in one lump sum direct to the student following confirmation of enrolment and satisfactory academic progress after the semester 2 census date (usually 31 August each year).

  6. The Scholarship will assist the recipient(s) in travelling, tuition and subsistence for a period of up to twelve months.  Experience need not necessarily be gained through a tertiary institution.

  7. Candidates will be required to submit an application which will be considered by a specially convened panel chaired by the Director of the Elder Conservatorium who will draw on the advice of the heads of studies.

  8. Applicants who are shortlisted will be invited to participate in the final selection process which includes an audition, interview and submission of a detailed study proposal and costings.

  9. The scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered; acceptance of the scholarship offer cannot be deferred. If a student declines the scholarship offer, the scholarship will be offered to the next eligible student.

  10. The scholarships shall be administered by the Elder Conservatorium of Music.

  11. Students in receipt of other University of Adelaide Scholarships may not apply for this Scholarship.

  12. The scholarship will be terminated where:

    1. a student  ceases to be enrolled in the approved program of study at the University

    2. a student has provided false or misleading information with regard to their personal details

    3. a student has failed to maintain satisfactory academic progress for two consecutive semesters

    4. a student is guilty of serious misconduct in terms of the University Policy Rules for Student Conduct in the University

  13. The University may vary the rules from time to time in a manner consistent with the University’s legal obligations and policies.
