Virtual London study tour for music students

The University of Adelaide music study tours have been one of the most influential group learning experiences, bringing the reality of the profession to music students.

Presenting students with an overseas conservatoire prospectus or a recording of one of the major London orchestras is easy, but stepping onto a plane and being immersed in one of the world’s greatest cities for the arts, music and history can create life-changing experiences.

With the 2020 London study tour scheduled to depart on July 12th, COVID-19 intervened and left the tour in limbo and of course, a very disappointed but understanding group of students. With the Michael Cox Symposium also scheduled for July, A. Prof. Elizabeth Koch AM decided to bring London to Adelaide as a virtual study tour.

"The Cast in this production are colleagues from London and Adelaide, many of whom I have known since my first flute study trip in 1999. I am indebted to these world class musicians for embracing this tour and generously and wholeheartedly  contributing such a diverse range of ideas, advice, methodologies, performances, enthusiasm and passion for their profession and also a commitment to seeing us all in the future. I would also like to thank Edward Palmer from the Faculty of Arts for his support," Associate Professor Koch said.

"The value of travel and study cannot be underestimated. To be able to facilitate University of Adelaide study tours is a privilege and now in the period of COVID-19 it is unclear when study tours will be on the agenda again, so this virtual offering is exciting and will  bridge the gap until it is safe to travel."

Associate Professor Koch invites you to join her and the Elder Conservatorium students on this exciting journey to London where they will meet some of Europe’s most outstanding musicians and pedagogues.
