As part of the collaboration between the University of Adelaide and the Adelaide Festival, last Saturday Tim Minchin conducted a Q & A for The University of Adelaide students with Joint Artistic Director of Adelaide Festival, Neil Armfield as facilitator.

This provided a unique opportunity for students to learn from the legendary composer, musician, comedian, actor, writer and director who performed as part of the Adelaide Festival’s 60th Anniversary Concert.

In attendance were students from the course ‘Creativity and the Adelaide Festival’, as well as Music Theatre students and students from the Bachelor of Creative Arts, the Creative Writing Course, Pop Music and graduates of Elder Conservatorium through Helpmann Academy.

Tim talked students through his career from writing love songs at the age of 11 through to his high school years in Perth where he divided his time between hockey and after school rock bands. He reflected on the value of his arts degree and his late realisation of being an artist. Tim advised students about the importance of finding their own way and discussed his breakthrough at Edinburgh at the age of 29.
