German Studies courses can be studied as a major or minor in most Undergraduate programs. These courses can also be taken as electives in most programs.

If you’re interested in doing the language alongside another degree, the Diploma in Languages (German) is an excellent option for you. It will extend your undergraduate degree by one year to accommodate the language sequence, but you have an internationally recognised qualification in German at the end of your studies.

The Department of German Studies also offer an Honours program as the final stage of a student’s formal training in German language. The course develops a high level of oral and written language proficiency and extends a student’s knowledge and appreciation of German culture.

If you’re considering postgraduate study, the Department of German Studies offers the possibility of a Masters or PhD program by research. A first class Honours Degree may be required, please contact the Department to discuss your eligibility.

Students are encouraged to consider what scholarships they may be eligible for. Visit the Faculty of Arts Scholarship website.
