The Tinline Scholarship for Politics

Whereas the late George John Robert Murray, then a member of the Council of the University, paid in 1907 the sum of £1000 to the University for the purpose of founding with the income thereof a scholarship to be called “The Tinline Scholarship” in memory of the family of his mother,
it is hereby provided as follows:

  1. Two Tinline Scholarships shall be available for award each year.
  2. Each scholarship shall be valued at $600, unless otherwise determined by the Faculty.
  3. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage original work.
  4. Provided that in the opinion of the examiners the candidate is of sufficient merit one scholarship shall be awarded to the candidate placed highest in the final examination for the Honours degree of Bachelor of Arts in the History Department and the other to the candidate placed highest in the
    final examination for the Honours degree of Bachelor of Arts in the Politics Department.
  5. If in any year no candidate in one Department is deemed by the examiners to be of suficient merit, two awards may be made in the other Department if two candidates in that Department are deemed to be of sufficient merit.
  6. The value of the scholarship shall be paid in one sum to the scholar on receipt by the Registrar of a certificate from the Head of the Department concerned that the scholar has entered upon postgraduate study or research in the Adelaide University which accords with the general purpose of the scholarship as stated in clause 3 above.
  7. This statute may be varied from time to time but the title and purpose of the scholarship shall not be changed.
