Project Summary

ProjectThe Aristotelian Tradition
ResearchersAssociate Professor Han Baltussen
Funding Source
SummaryThis project continues and synthesises Associate Professor Baltussen's work on the school of Aristotle (Peripatos) over the centuries, charting how his successors maintained and revised his pioneering work in many newly established areas of research (biology, ethics, natural history, physics, metaphysics and ethics). The work involves meticulous and patient analysis of often fragmentary sources. Planned outputs are a brief history of the Peripatos from the third c. BC to the second c. AD (book commissioned by Acumen Ltd., UK) and a commentary on important fragmentary texts of Theophrastus, the second head of the Peripatos (for E.J. Brill., Leiden).
